SQL Server 2005 backup

Add device on SQL Server 2005

Device type:

disk OS file based with extension .bak filename

type Tape driver (which can be detected by WIndows)

Example: (Disk based)

USE  dbname
GO
EXEC  sp_addumpdevice  'disk',  'backup_disk', 'C:\backup\backup_disk.bak'

Example: (Tape driver)

USE dbname
GO
EXEC sp_addumpdevice   'tape',  'backup_tape',  '\\.\TAPE0'

Backup database into disk/tape

BACKUP DATABASE  dbname  TO  backup_disk

BACKUP DATABASE  dbname  TO  backup_tape  WITH DIFFENENTIAL

BACKUP DATABASE  dbname  TO  backup_disk  WITH NOINIT

(INIT: init device, overwrite the data. NOINIT: do not init the device, append the data)

Pronounce skee-ma, the structure of a database system, described in a formal language supported by the database management system (DBMS). In a relational database, the schema defines the tables, the fields in each table, and the relationships between fields and tables.Schemas are generally stored in a data dictionary. Although a schema is defined in text database language, the term is often used to refer to a graphical depiction of the database structure.

- 1) In computer programming, a schema (pronounced SKEE-mah) is the organization or structure for a database. The activity of data modeling leads to a schema. (The plural form is schemata. The term is from a Greek word for “form” or “figure.” Another word from the same source is “schematic.”) The term is used in discussing both relational databases and object-oriented databases. The term sometimes seems to refer to a visualization of a structure and sometimes to a formal text-oriented description.Two common types of database schemata are the star schema and the snowflake schema.

2) In another usage derived from mathematics, a schema is a formal expression of an inference rule for artificial intelligence (AI) computing. The expression is a generalized axiom in which specific values or cases are substituted for each symbol in the axiom to derive a specific inference.

Definition
	A schema (singular), as understood in schema theory, represents generic knowledge. A general category (schema) will include slots for all the components, or features, included in it.
	Schemata (plural) are embedded one within another at different levels of abstraction. Relationships among them are conceived to be like webs (rather than hierarchical); thus each one is interconnected with many others.
